stained woodwork to gloss

hello i have some stained woodwork but i want to gloss it can i just use normal undercoat or do i need a special primer?

Zinsser BIN - Primer Sealer and Stain Killer comes highly recommended.

you will need to give the woodwork a good prep, ie sand, degrease etc prior to any paint going on. Previously stained and varnished surfaces dont hold the paint too well and can chip if knocked.
