Remove the stain.
Which is likely soaked into the wood so will need a lot of rubbing down and unlikely to work well.
Repainting it or replacing it may be easier than removing a dark stain.
Although I'm sure an expert will be along shortly to advise you of xx miracle product

I always found you could go darker with a stain but not lighter .

Unless you strip it to base wood, you won't be able to go lighter with a stain.
And it depends if the colour of the wood underneath is lighter. If it's similar to the current stain, a lighter stain will have no effect.
BTW, this won't help but I really like that colour.
