My turn's come around again to look silly but I've never touched this stuff before. Iron looking water pipe, light grey/silvery smooth finish. I'm guessing galvanised. Roughly 3/4inch od, look like 1/2 irons. Hoping the threads are standard size. Please do tell because I have to replace a section of it and can't try it for size without shutting off the main first. Thanks in anticipation.

Question is, "Do you think I'm on the right track or is this a size/type of pipe that's non standard?" Its in an out house but to work on it I have to isolate the whole property. Can't afford to be wrong and then go in search of odd fittings!
If it's iron the od range for 1/2" is 21.1 to 21.7mm with galvanising you can add another 0.1mm. If it is old then galvanising will be pitted and rusty in places. If you cant see any screwed joints, are you sure it's not lead? - try scratching it with a blade.
