Just noticed that I have a very tiny chip in a steel bath and its started to rust (its about 1-2mm wide).

Got the inlaws staying with me for about 5 weeks

How quickly do i need to get this repaired?

What colour? try a car body touch up stick. For permanent repairs look for a company called Bath Wizzard(or similar) they re-enamel baths and basins.

You need to convert the active rust with a phosphate rust convertor, then obtain some porcelain bath repair enamel.

You can't re-enamel a bath in situ. You can get it painted, but that's not the same. It looks awful after a while.

You can get it re-enameled in situ, many companies offer this, seen one done and was very impressed, though not cost effective unless you have an antique or high quality bath.
Simple enamel touch up kit and as mentioned rust remover.
