I have been asked to set up a double socket and lights in a garden shed.

The property already has an outdoor radial power circuit running 3 core steel wire armour from the Consumer Unit to several IP55 sockets located along a fence in the garden - total distance approximately 15 metres.

It is my intension to spur from one these sockets which is conveniently located right next to the shed. Unfortunately there isn't sufficient slack in the swa to run the old cable directly into the shed and run the socket as part of the radial circuit.

The circuit has an RCD and is protected by a 30Amp MCB. The 30Amp MCB would suggest that the SWA cable is/should be 4mm conductors.

Is there a way of telling whether the cable is 2.5mm (20Amp MCB protection) or 4mm?

if it's SWA it WILL be stamped on it somewhere along it's length..
it you can see numbers but not something like 3x4 then it's on the back..

it should be once every 3 foot or so..
