I am introducing a number of boxes into my shed to store tools and materials. I want to label these to help locate the appropriate item. The shed will experience different temperatures and I need something that stands the test of time. Not start curling at the edges within a few months.
Could some masking tape with the text suffice or do you recommend something else?

Label machine but clean surfaces with alcohol or meths prior to sticking.

Masking tape is not made to last but you could renew them

that silver coloured gaffa tape and a black marker work well, even when it gets wet,

Plastic. It's the really useful storage boxes.
Self adhesive label holders.

Get some thin card that will go in your printer, and make whatever labels you need. You could even buy card in different colours and devise a system of colour coding types of content if that makes sense.
