stink pipe problem!

Could anyone help me with my stink pipe problem? I am having a single story extension at the side of my house. The stink pipe runs up the side, so we were going to move it over a bit and move the underground pipes, but after digging and digging have realised that the concrete surrounding the pipe is just to deep. someone has suggested leaving the stink pipe where it is and boxing it in so it cant be seen. Does anyone know if that is going to cause us any horrible problems?

It rather depends on the condition, if you know it to be in good condition that's great but if its in poor condition or near the end of its life it could cause you problems later. Its good practice to replace any soil pipes that run under a new floor when building an extension because of this. Boxing in a pipe is fine leaving an existing one may not be. If you don't know its condition etc imagine a worse case scenario that the pipe needed to be replaced in 2 years time .........

How deep is it? Who is resisting its replacement/movement?

Well they have said, the pipe that is exposed will be replaced but the pipes underground will not. The builders have just said that they didn't realise how much concrete will need to be moved. The brick case of our extension is already up the the pipe is inside the extension, the manhole about 3 meters away in my front garden. My main concern is maybe smells or noise from the pipe! Sounds should be limited by insulating the pipe within the boxing in and a few layers of plasterboard. There should be no risk of any smell whatsoever. As mentioned a far greater risk is that the existing pipe under your nice new floor fails/blocks/collapses or similar at some point and ultimately requires replacement, an increased risk of such a failure will exist given that you are building a building on top of it.
