Hi, just found this site. Seems to be populated with folk who know what they're doing around the home. So I hope one of you may be able to help me.
Last year I had my hallway understairs area converted into a small toilet, and pretty good it is too! This area was originally used for hanging up coats, vacuum, shoes, polish tools etc. The problem now is, although everyone in the family promised not to, coats are hung over the bottom of the stairs (the newel post?). I had a small triangular(ish) side door fitted to the bottom of the stairs, covering the residual area under the stairs/behind the new loo wall. This is now home for wife's handbags and stuff.
Now SWMBO has gone minimalist, and says the pile of coats and trainers has to be sorted pronto!
The hallway is about 5ft wide, and has stairs leading down the outside wall, facing and slightly offset to the centrally fitted front door (trad 3 bed semi here in Fulwood, Preston).
Currently there's a standard 3ft wide x 4ft tall pine chest of drawers at the bottom of the stairs, which is fine for odds and sods, but we can't hang coats in it! Alongside that is a fixed gas meter cupboard.
So I don't really have much space; my imagination says an L shaped, 3ft wide x 6ft tall, narrow Welsh Dresser-shaped cupboard, with doors above instead of the 12inch deep plate racks. I'd buy one if I knew where to look. I suppose having one made could be too expensive to justify it.
Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone got such a thing? Any sensible suggestions on how to provide hidden storage for coats and trainers, in a hall, without blocking light from door to stairs, would be very welcome.
My woodworking DIY skills are very limited; more into fitting than making.

Regards to all.
