How bad is Gareth? I have worked on the Falklands where 100 MPH winds were the normal, at 150 MPH we had to take care, although very little stopped, 70 MPH would have been considered as no problem, it would not have caused any disruption.

Took Wife to station this morning, and found train delayed, so went to find out if that delay would result in missing her connection at Wrexham, only to find there was now no connection, the whole service had been suspended.

So I had to drive Shotton to Shrewsbury and back because of a little breeze, at worst only 70 MPH, I am sure a train weighing 100 plus ton is far more stable than my car at maybe 1.5 ton, what is their problem.

I bet non of the heritage railways cancelled a single journey due to wind? I can make more wind with a helping of sprouts!

I am sure a train weighing 100 plus ton

The overhead cables for electric traction blow down, and fallen trees for all trains locomotives.

In the good old days tree removal was much faster than today, Health and Safety delays the removal these days.

Looking for reports of trees or anything else stopping a diesel train going between Wrexham and Shrewsbury has not produced any hits, and if the non stop express 10 minutes before my wife's train could do the run, then there seems no reason why a stopping train can't?

They said it was due to a signalling fault, however in that case how did the express service still run? The stopping service was cancelled before the express had run, but the trip from Shotton to Wrexham meant that she could not catch the express service.

We did wonder if there would have been any charge to travel from Wrexham to Shrewsbury, the Shotton to Wrexham is free for anyone with Welsh bus pass, buses but not trains are also free from Wrexham to the extent of the bus route, so Wrexham to Chester free, but once in Chester to continue in England would cost, So route to Shrewsbury goes in out and in to England so if using a bus replacement not sure if any charge?

However in Shrewsbury she was joining daughter and travelling to Devon, by car, so time was a factor, so I had to travel to Shrewsbury and back to ensure she arrived in time to complete rest of the trip in time.
