Storm sill / Door Seal - 70's Front Door

Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of renovating my hall / porch area in a 70's bungalow. It looks like the previous owner added some foam strips to the wood to make a better seal which has perished.

I could replace with simple foam / rubber strips but notice there is a rounded recess around the door which must have housed the original seal, but I am struggling to know what it would be called and where to start looking? It looks to be about 5mm deep and 10mm wide recess.

Any help appreciated.

I think the recess probably took some sort of circular cord. Something with a 8mm diameter would have fitted nicely in the recess and protruded enough to compress and create a seal when the door is closed. There is a range of different diameter cords at https://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/shop/category/sponge-seals-expanded-neoprene-cord-445 Other than that, I don't think any other shaped seal would actually fit in that curved recess.

If you are wanting a secondary seal, I have previously used this white sponge V shaped seal from Seals Direct. https://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/shop/srs1709-21266?category=448 This may be a good replacement to the rectangular foam that has deteriorated.

Currently renewing 90's door seal with the following. Your door might need something different. The seal spec might give you some clues. If you ask the seal sellers, they might know what you need.

I stuck the V shaped seal onto the door frame, rather than the door. I think it depends on your setup, but looking at your photos it looks like you'll only have an area to stick it on the top and side?

I would only use this as a secondary measure, the round groove looks like it should hold the primary seal.
