Stripping lining paper from plasterboard

Due to have the spare room re-plastered ad one of the walls is a plasterboard stud wall, and is covered with thick lining paper, and about a hundred coats of various paints. Ive steamered all the paper off the solid walls, but a bit cautious of doing the plasterboard wall for fear of softening/soaking the plasterboard? The lining paper is a pig to get off, and the layers of paint have gone all snot like already when I tried to strip a bit, what other options do I have please?

I was thinking overboard straight over it (theres only 1 double socket to bring forward), whats best dot and dab with something, or long screws through?

Or is there another option?

Personally I'd pull the old board off and re-board it.
