Stupid idea for Loft floor

Because the new joists are deeper than the existing ones by some margin, so I'd lose head height in the loft.
How would you lose head height in the loft? By sistering you'd lose no height? In addition, you'd lose less of the room height in the room below when compared to your idea to essentially install the new joists immediately below the existing ones. Granted, sistering would likely create more mess and upheaval.

To sister them I'd need to get 4.5m long joists into the loft for a start, clean out all the crap that's currently in between the joists and put weight on the existing joists to get at the end of them that meets the roof at the front of the house.

It seems easier to construct support from underneath and I have more than enough ceiling height in the rooms underneath. Oh, and I can put a load of insulation between the new joists.

Sounds like a lot of work for little gain. Have you any future plans for a loft conversion? If not there are probably easier and cheaper ways of strengthening the floors.
