how should i go about fitting a curtain pole above this door (note the obstruction to the top right)

i'd probably mount it as normal but cut off the right hand end so it touches the right hand wall.

i don't think anything you do will look 'perfect'

If you fit a pole and have the curtains go left and right then the right hand one as seen in the photo will obstruct the opening of the door.

Suggest you fix a socket to the wall, and have the pole long enough so that on the "Left hand side" there is the usual pole fixing device, but, set this fixing far enough back from the door so that both curtains will slide and fit between the "left" hand side and the pole bracket holding the pole.

Left and right as seen in the supplied photo.

in effect you are moving the two curtains to one side only?
Or fit one large curtain that all slides to the left?
