Im going to do our loft insulation. At the moment we have 75mm of insulation between 80mm joists.

Im going to add another 200mm of insulation and want to board the 2 main sections of loft for some general storage.

Do i really need to add more joists running across the old ones to support the boards? Any other options?

Adding 200mm timber joists to support maybe 6 square meters of boards seems a little excessive to me.

Ive seen the legs you can get but im not convinced about them.

Any other ideas?

Other than using pre-insulated or even PIR boards no.
I would go for the 200mm timber addition, run them perpendicular to the existing joists, life will be easier.
Also when boarding out, start from the loft hatch.
