Surface mounting cable for outside light

Hi chaps, I have a defunct outside light. The mains supply goes through the wall to an exterior metal junction box, then by buried armour cable to the light at the bottom of my garden. I want to replace this with a wall mounted light, a few feet above the current external junction box.
1) Can I simply surface mount cable to the wall with nailed cable clips?
2) Can I - or must I - use plastic or metal trunking?
3) Can I use standard T&E mains lighting cable which I paint over to match the colour of the painted rendered wall? OR instead is there a round (flexible?) cable I can use which will give a better (more weatherproof) seal at the junction box and the light fixture?

1) Yes.
2) If you want - don't have to.
3) round black flex is better for outside. It looks better anyway but depending on what you decide it may not be visible.
Exit/enter the bottom of the box and light to prevent water running in.
