I am looking to swap the backplate to the one supplied by the smart Drayton wiser backplate. I figured out there are differences between the two plates and it is not a matter of plug and play. I can safely swap wires but that's all I can do. The white backplate is the ESI, the black one is the smart Drayton wiser one. If it's a simple specific swap can you please advise me on how to wire as I find the electrical diagrams incomprehensible. I did try to find a local installer but no one is picking the job! I did try to do rewiring in identical pattern: L to L (2 blue wires), N to N (2 brown wires), 1 to 1 ( black), 2 to 2 (grey) and green/yellow ground to the separate ground pin on the right on black plate. However, the receiver won't even turn on!!!

Try grey in terminal 3, instead of terminal 2, on the Wiser (assuming single channel wiser).

...and with that configuration, the receiver should have turned on.
Does your old receiver still work?

After you have reattempted the connections, post a picture of the wiring so we can double check!

Hello
I've followed your advice and very pleased to inform that the system is working all fine. To help others I have posted the old (ESI, white) configuration and the new rewiring on the smart Drayton wiser.

I've been frantically looking for an installer for a while in my area without success and not only do I not need one now, you've also saved me a significant amount of money for which I am very grateful!
