Swapping programmer

Good morning,
I would like to swap my old siemans RWB2E programmer with a digital one.
My question is if I remove the siemans programmer revealing the back plate with all the wires going into it can i put a new programmer straight onto the old backplate?
If I can is there any you would recommend?
I have a fully pumped y plan sytstem with a glowworm economy plus 40f boiler.

You can but it takes 5 minutes to swap them over.

If go for a Honeywell st9400c. That WILL need the new back plate.

Alternatively the Drayton LP522 isn't bad either.

Just make a note of all the wires. L-N-1-3-4 terminals on a y plan are pretty standard now so it shouldn't need any altering.
