Tailgate struts

Stabilus are a reputable brand with an extensive catalogue. You'll need something with the right closed length, open length, force, damping and end fittings.

You might be able to find one for the equivalent Opel model?
You've just jogged my memory as soon as I saw the name !
Yes JohnD that was the make I fitted. Admittedly they are only supporting a boot lid not a hatch but I've had no problems.

Most European car makes use (or have used) them as original equipment in the past. They're very good. Closed length is the most important factor. It has to be shorter or the same length as original, or you'll break something when you close the tailgate! If the open length is a bit short, it's probably not the end of the world if the tailgate only opens a few inches lower than it used to. That only leaves the force - which if the OP is lucky, might be written on the originals, or maybe part of the part number? A few hundred Newtons, I'd guess. Pressing one down on a pair of bathroom scales set to read kg and multiplying the answer by 10 will get you somewhere in the right ballpark.
