Is there anything special about talc that makes it suitable for brushing between rubbing floorboards or is it just recommended because it used to be something people had around the house?

I need to screw some of the squeaking floorboards down anyway, but I wondered if brushing the dust between the boards would achieve the same thing.
Flour has also been suggested which we do have in the house.

Flour is food..for weevils..I wouldnt.
Talc does work, but there is nothing like a proper fix.
