Should all taps which have a 'headgear nut' undo at this point???

What is the best way to loosen a really stubborn one? Is it ok to use WD40 to try and ease it?? I only want to replace a dodgy washer!

Any advise, greatly appreciated!

Sorry - it's the gland nut I mean - not being a plumber just a humble diyer - who's trying to make a tap work better!

Hold teh spout in your hand so it dont turn, get a bit of leather belt and put this round the housing. Get a pipe wrench and tighten this over the leather and should give you more grip to undo that.
