Hi everyone,

I recently bought a house with a Vaillant ecoCOMPACT2 126/2 boiler. Unfortunately, the hot water cylinder appears to have developed a leak. A Vaillant technician has been out, turned off the hot water, and recommended replacing the boiler entirely. The heating side of the system is still functioning.

We plan to switch to a heat pump this summer, so we’re looking for a temporary solution for hot water in the meantime.

I’ve tried contacting several plumbers, but none are willing to inspect or repair it—they all seem more interested in selling us a new boiler.

Is replacing the boiler really the only option? I’m considering installing an electric water heater to get us through until summer.

We’re moving into the house this Sunday with 2 small kids and a pregnant wife, so time is a bit tight.

Thanks in advance for any advice! This forum has already been a fantastic resource.

Hard to be certain from the photos but it looks like that just needs draining down & re-sealing. Should be easy enough to do. Where do you live / what's your nearest town?
