Hi,
im not doing this so it is all hypothetical really.
If you are testing a TT supply what is the best way to test the earth rod been correctly fitted. Can you do this with a megger 1552 or do you need a separate earth rod tester?
do you just test the system as normal for getting your Ze reading and as long as it is within the standards then it is acceptable (<500 ohms if using a 100mA RCD)

sorry if im been dim but would appreciate helpful answers, i aint joined this forum to be ridiculed as some people seem to have pleasure of doing.

Many Thanks in advance

If you have a TT supply in place you can just use an ordinary earth fault loop impednace meter.

The times when you need a rod tester are when doing generator only installations or if your supplier insists the rod is tested before they will connect your new supply.

The Megger 1552 is a fine buy. It's a bit heavy on batteries - 8xAA. Expect to get about 6-10 installations per battery change using standard alkaline batteries. Can't use rechargeable batteries. It's simple, robust, accurate, small and light with a good neck strap. The tips on the switched probe are very handy when testing ceiling roses with slightly more recessed termina screws - e.g. MK.

Treat TT similar to TN but pay extra attention to any requirements for 'Isolation', especially in a non-domestic installation.

Consider the MFT 1553 for an extra £24 from www.isswww.co.uk

The Megger DET4TD is an excellent earth rod tester if you need one.
