"A healthcare firm which employs the prominent Conservative politician Owen Paterson as a paid consultant has been awarded a £133m contract without any other firms being given the opportunity to bid for the work.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has given Randox the contract to produce testing kits to help respond to the coronavirus pandemic. It was awarded “without prior publication of a call for competition”, according to details of the contract seen by the Guardian.

The firm has employed Owen Paterson, a former Conservative cabinet minister and leading Brexit supporter, as a consultant since 2015. He is currently paid £100,000 a year at the rate of £500 an hour"

"The swabs in some batches of one brand of coronavirus home-test kits are "not up to standard", Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said.

As a precaution, the government says the kits made by Randox should not be used until further notice."

Randox were charging £110 a test, the same test could be sourced from China for £15.
Could be the government is trying to get out of a contract they signed in haste on the recommendation of Owen Patterson.

The Tories have been driven by greed not the science during the pandemic.

Covid emergency has allowed the govt to dish out contracts to Tories and their mates.

Loads of Tory MPs have interests in private healthcare, no wonder they want NHS flogged off.

So now its the opposition job to do Bojo job. Fine swap seats.

Well imagine you get called to look at a bodge up job from a previous plumber. You have a look and then the client says- well what will you do? Will you a) do the job for free or b) say sure if I can undo the bodge and start again.

A seasoned and well travelled oil engineer who had worked all over the middle east and africa once dryly noted - the difference between these third world corrupt countries and western countries like the UK is that in these poorer countries everyone is corrupt and on the take from the lowest offical to the highest. In the UK the corruption really is only at the top and its an exlclusive club, he said at least in these third world countries everyone can partake in a bit of corruption but in the west its usually reserved for those in power.

The second sentence, doesn't lead you to conclude the opening sentence (OP) There are lots of firms making testing kits and there are lots of firms providing platforms on a not-for-profit basis (logistics, warehouse management, web hosting etc.) - was this an exclusive tender, or simply a fast track award?
