Hi,

I've been looking into ways to remove some textured paint in our flat, and have learned that there is a risk that the surface might contain asbestos. I've taken a close look at the rough texture, and noticed in some areas that there are some fibers sticking out from the lumps of paint. Could this be asbestos? Please take a look at the following photos...

We're also due to get some building work done in the room which would create some dust, so any feedback would be great.

Thanks,

Fred

Thats not asbestos, fibres are way too large ..Just looks like a cr***y , perhaps unintentional, thick paint job with a few pubes or dog hairs :) Sandtex maybe?

Any idea when the wall finish was put on?

Asbestos is a VERY dangerous substance and therefore you should make sure 100% that it does not contain asbestos.

I would try and cut a sliver off the wall and look at it, or take it to an asbestos specialist or your local council environmental department (in a sealed clear plastic bag) and get them to say 100% for sure if it is asbestos or not.

While it may sounds dramatic, if you throw caution to the wind and remove it and it DOES contain asbestos, you are regrettably in for a nasty shock health wise, and that also means everyone else in the house.

Please make sure you know what you are doing and dont underestimate the dangers of asbestos, but hopefully it isnt but pls make sure anyway!
