Just wanted to thank everyone for their help over the last 2 months with advice for getting my kitchen re-wired. The re-wire is complete, the kitchen is fitted and I just have some tiling jobs etc to do.

I can honestly say (touch wood) I believe I have done the job effectively and to regs and it's down largely to the advice I had off this forum. I also sounded out local trades people (like my local independant electric store - recommended route rather than shed - build a relationship) to check what I was doing.

If anyone else is planning the same might I suggest trawling through my old messages on this forum and you'll find a wealth of information in the replies.

Have enjoyed it so much I have looked into getting formal qualifications. Have been amazed at how long the studying takes and have to hand it to you pros for what you have to go through.

From Jan 1 all DIY electrics like this need to go through Building Regs. I have mixed feelings about that. Glad of the timing to avoid the hassle but hopefully cofident it would pass anyway. Trouble is I had enormous agro from Building Control over the removal of a load-bearing wall, real jobs-worth stuff.
