In scenes reminiscent of the Brexit talks, British officials were still trying to reach a compromise with their EU counterparts overnight, as Keir Starmer prepared to host the European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, in London [today]. @ the Guardian

“It feels like we never left the EU to be honest,” replied Guest, 56, a lifelong native of the Essex constituency who, along with an overwhelming 72% of local voters, voted to leave the EU in 2016. Only three other districts backed Brexit to the same extent. His partner, Sarah, went further, accusing successive governments of a “betrayal”. Money that she believed had been saved by exiting the EU should have been channelled into improving it and other public services, she said. @ the Guardian

I wonder in what ways they expected that Brexit would improve things.

garbage told them it would get better and wooed their inner xenophobia/racism...

And yet now the inevitable has happened, and things having got worse they are turning to garbage again...

Criticis of Kieth’s new deal might be justified If all the fantastic “easiest in the world” deals had been struck post brexhit . But they haven’t.

Whenever people start this claim I always ask them what better deal do they think the government could’ve got.

That's a bit like asking a newborn baby why it cries. It can't give a sensible answer, it doesn't know why, and it's just an innate response.

I'm actually more interested in a slightly different question. How did they think leaving the EU would make their lives better.

Their pessimism over the Bre*it deal has increased since the Spring of 2021 and predictions According to the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), the Treasury’s independent forecaster, the UK is expected to suffer a 15% slump in trade and a 4% reduction in national income over the long term. don't improve their optimism. Exports have suffered and investment has fallen but, most damaging of all, migration has increased. All summed up in five charts @ the Guardian.

If Starmer can charmer v.d. Leyen and arrange a deal with the EU to help them prevent migration increasing he's won half the battle for the next election.

I think the dumb Brexer shmucks expected the EU to collapse once the UK left. It's been on the brink for decades you know, The Wail told them.

Brexit - utter pile of shít.

Brexers - thick as shít.
