The Great Global Warming Swindle.

you dont need to watch some channel4 rubbish to know global warming is largely a load of old balls to make us feel bad. the earth has always worked on hot and cold cycles....the last hot one occurred when no one was around.

our lifestyle certainly isnt helping and i agree in principle with the theory of cutting our wasteful culture down a peg or two but to solely blame my 15 year old car that has a 3.5 litre engine for global waming has always been folly. people who buy new cars are doing more damage. im good to the environment as much as i can be and walk places,recycle,re-use etcetcetc but you can only take it so far.

This is always the thing that gets me.The Government tell us to switch off all appliances that are not in use.Fair enough.Go around London at night and see all the office buildings with their lights on.No one in them. That's just one city.
There was a hot period in recent times. It was in the Norman era, this was on a TV documentary.Apparently grape vines could grow all year round.
Even Olive trees grew well. The Earth has its cycles. The Eath could be on the natural change...who knows?

that doesnt of course mean you can leave your lights on because everyone else does. if everyone took responsibility for their energy consumption then not only would their bills be less but the planet might be a cleaner place to live.

unfortunately far too many people are too lazy or ignorant to do the simple things like switching off a light....my girlfriend included

I'm not saying it's an excuse to leave any un-needed appliances on,where did you read that in my post? What I'm saying is that these office buildings should be incouraged,if not made,to switch off all un-necessary lights.Best regards

I saw half of it (before I fell asleep).

The gist of the argument was that the greatest global warming took place between 1900 and 1948, then it went completely opposite. From 1948 to 1975 the temperature actually cooled rapidly and scientists were predicting another Ice Age. Then it started to climb again.

Graphs clearly show how the temperature follows Sun Spot activity - and that Carbon Dioxide levels follow AFTER.

It looks like there are serious arguments ahead.

The company I work for has been given a green award :D Despite many of its 600+ stores leaving their lights on overnight!

They focused on a few new stores where heat reclaimation technology has been built into the refrigeration system and 30% less lights, PIR s in the warehouse etc, and threw the award at us. If they'd visited all 600 stores, the outcome would have been far worse . . .

(In many store's defence, and possibly these office buildings, the usual reason lights get left on is because everyone thinks they are on a timer. they arent.)

Just watching the news on sky, where this meeting of leaders, who are discussing the future of us and our planet, have decided that we will reduce CO 2 by 20% from the 1990 levels. Eeeerrrmmm... it's 2007. Dont they have any data between 1990 and 2007 ???? Be interesting to know what they did with the tax payers money.....

From Robin Williams (actor/comedian)
Politicians are like nappies.... they should be changed frequently because they are full of the same .....

Just one question about this G/W thing, can anyone explain why we don't get snow in winter like we use too. ?

Sun spots.

The sun isn't just a shiney disc that warms you in summer. We are actually within the sun's atmosphere. If you could see the invisble spectrum of X-rays you would see that the Sun is really a very volatile monster gushing out solar winds and electomagnetic particles. During times of sunspot activity these are the most active times. Therefore, when you get sunspot activity you will get warmer temperatures as the sun is putting out more energy. In just one day the Earth receives more energy from the Sun than from the entire stock of oil that the earth ever had. Only the Sun can influence our climate to the degree that it is being influenced.
