I hope you can all help. Our shower isolation switch decided to refuse to budge, so after we took if off the wall we discovered it was horribly corroded.

We bought a new switch and after much frustration managed to get the bloomin’ thing wired up and back in its cavity. All works well regarding the switch – power to the shower goes off and on when you flick it. The big problem is that the light is permanently on, even though the power to the shower is off.

We reckon that what’s happened is that we’ve wired it upside down so the bulb connects directly to the mains power, rather than only doing so when the circuit to the shower is completed.

Apart from being very annoying, is there any reason why we should open up the wretched thing and wire it up the correct way around?

Any help much appreciated!

The spark arrestor in a breaker could fail to work if wired the wrong way around it would depend on the design of the make used and in real terms it is unlikely to make any difference. However without checking the design one can only guess. So it's up to you, sorry.

My guess is that's going to annoy you until you sort it, you might as well just wire it up as it should be or it will be bugging you. You clearly know what's wrong and as you have worked it out for yourself you should have the ability to put it right.
