The Port of Dover is pleased to announce...

Perhaps the Port of Dover are liars, personally, I think they might have more of a handle on the situation than you or the other LWW keyboard warriors.
Oh dear, you've posted a thread without thinking, now you are digging yourself a big hole.

The port of Dover are reporting the number of truck movements, not trade movements.

Trucks coming into UK arent checked.

Trucks going back to EU are going back empty.....because Brexit red tape is making it too difficult.
Empty trucks don't need customs checks, so no hold ups.

I read it as trucks too. After all that allows the RHA and Port of Dover numbers to both be true.

When bragging about their business success, ports usually say how many million tons of freight they handle in and out, and how much bigger it has grown than in previous years.

Dover has omitted that information.

Can anyone guess why?

Additionally, it is Dover Port advertising for more traffic.
Why do they need to do that?

You've sussed 'em out. Clever you!
They don't waste space on these ferries.
Anyway, they've got to keep these empty containers somewhere.

More likely only half of them. Imports to UK are not being checked because we only had five years to prepare, so didn't recruit thousands of customs immigration and imports staff.

Exports to EU need documentation and checks, so are delayed and impeded, and have reduced.

It's what we voted for, right?

Strange how a post of me suggesting that Bobby and JohnD, could be one and the same has gone missing very quickly..........:cautious::cautious::cautious:

Bobby's post has also gone missing.....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Just wait for the Q1 figures and BOP. It will be interesting. So any guess what happens to a currency with a widening BOP?

Trucks importing goods from EU....full
Trucks exporting from UK.....empty.

Yes indeed

Something like 80% of the trucks are from European hauliers.

UK is not checking inbound freight, so imports aren't being held up.

Normally the hauliers would fill their trucks for the return journey....but they are empty.

welcoming over 90% of the freight traffic volumes typical of this time of year following the significant stockpiling experienced before Christmas.

Pre brexit, 30% of lorries went back to the continent empty, French customs estimate that may now be 50%.
Interesting figures from fillyboy, assuming they're correct.
Trade (although we know it's not trade that is being referred to) down to 90% of usual £122bn, that'll mean that trade is now only about £109bn, a loss of £13bn.
Fillyboy also suggests that now 50% (instead of 30% normally) of lorries are returning empty, that'll be a further loss of 20%, that'll be an increased loss of about £22bn.
That's a loss of about £35bn, and that's just Dover! There's 120 export ports from UK! We can assume the situation is much the same at other ports.
From Dover alone, a loss of about 1/3 of exports to EU, based on fillyboy's figures!
