Just a quick question, my internet connection speed is naff, and after reading this forum, i think the problem could be with the ring wire. Had a nosey in the Bt master socket, and i have an extension connected to most of the terminals. Could i just basically disconnect the ring wire? Would i have to do this in all the extenstions? And would my phone and internet work on pins "2&5"? I've heard it could.

Cheers

Just disconnect the ring wires from terminal 3 in the master socket. Thats all you need to do.

Your phones and broadband will still work. If they require ring current, they will obtain it via the microfilter instead. I assume you have microfilters on every bit of kit.

If this does not improve things you should try disonnecting all extension wiring and try your router directly to the master socket in isolation.

The best results are usually obtained by fitting a single fixed filter in place of the front plate of the NTE5, and connecting your router to that.
http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/GPNTE5ADSL.html is one example.

Once that filter is in place, telephony and ADSL signals are split from each other, and can be handled seperately.

With a fixed filter on the NTE, you can dispense with the microfilters at every socket, but you may need to reconnect the bell wire for your telephones to function correctly. In this case, reconnecting the bell wire will do no harm, as everything is 'behind' the fixed filter at the master socket.
