Hi

I’ve got some Knauf 44 thermal insulation rolls left over and I know they don’t have acoustic properties but is there any point in putting it in the void between the kitchen and the bedroom to help absorb the sound of clattering pots and pans?

It’s a deep void so even doubling up the thermal is not going to fill it.

I’ve priced up the acoustic rolls and it’s a no-no Thanks

It won't do any harm and may help. It will probably muffle high frequencies, such as clattering noises.

Also thermal insulation could be a good thing, e.g. if you have heating in the adjoining room and the kitchen window open.

Thanks for the replies. Perhaps not the best but better than a void

No, just the ceiling rose. But where I’ve installed down lights in the bathroom I’ve used LED ones with a guard and left a bit of space around them.

You could also increase the mass of the ceiling by adding strips of plasterboard between the joists. Nothing fancy, your local merchant might have damaged ones they'll let you have for a couple of quid, just cut as close as you can between the joists and loose lay, with the insulation on top.

Are you working from the top or the bottom?
