Hi -

I have a thermal store, about 6 months old, which was supplied by Newark with two temperature gauges pre-installed. This week I dug all the towels out of the airing cupboard to check what was going on back there, and I found one of the gauges seems to have sprung a small leak... See photo.

Now - My worry is that I don't know whats going on behind the gauge? Do I simply need a new gage or a whole new cylinder? Does the cylinder need draining down to fit a new gauge? How big a job is this? How worried should I be??

Thanks in advance
Jon

A quick phone call to Newark & I'm sure they'll sort you out with a new gauge etc. if my memory serves, a small family run concern with 1st class service.

it should be but that looks like its full of limescale? i might be wrong as its a thermal store but shouldnt it have a scale reducer fitted ? ( most boiler companies wont cover it if no protection, if water hardness is over 200ppm. ( i dont deal with thermal stores so i could be wrong)

Thanks. It is hard water, but I do have a magnetic scale reducer fitted on the mains water feed - I would have thought that would do it?

Isn't the water in the store itself pretty much standing water anyway? If thats the case then scale shouldn't be a massive problem, I wouldn't have thought. I am absolutely amateur though, so please correct me if I am wrong.

FYI I emailed Newark and they sent me a new gauge free-of-charge. They are a great company and all my dealings with them have been excellent. Looks like I will have to drain down though to fit it, which is a bit annoying, but there you go.
