What thermometer do members recommend for radiator balancing? Digital?

Yes just get a 2 channel k type clip on style.

You must remember to balance to the dT of your own system not a magic number you read somewhere.
 
I thought there was meant to be a 12 degree temp difference between flow and return of each radiator. I dont know what dT is, could you explain?

Read the article you referenced, very interesting. My boiler is a gloworm flexicom 30cx with ch flow temp 38 degrees, if I multiply that by 0.3 it gives a dt of 11.4. Therefore i would be looking at each radiators return pipe to be 38 - 11.4 = 26.6 degrees. Have I got that correct?
 
Remember it's accurate room temperature all we really care about.
