Hi all, does anyone know of a good make digital thermometer which can be used to balance rads, and to also test the temp of rads to find cold spots from sludge build up, etc?

also are the pipe clamp-on (like crocodile clips)! thermometers good, or can the clamps simply be bought separately and plugged into the thermometer like an add-on?

any good recommendations?

In my experience the clamp on ones take too long. Go for the best infra red thermometer that you can afford.

i think most of the infrared ones come from 2 or 3 manufacturers, they all look suspiciously similar.
this is the only useful model for finding cold spots, about 60 quid these days, if that.
maplins will probably do them but they tend to be expensive.
internet jobbie might get you one for 30 or 40 quid. really not sure if there is much difference in quality.
i have had one living in the car for 4 years and it still works.
