Central Heating Temperatures and Diagnosis

OK Dan Robinson. I suppose it simply gives more controllability.

I was thinking that you would only need one per room as it would cut off the radiator or flow of water to the radiator it's connected to.

But of course you would need one per radiator as otherwise they would keep pumping out heat? Whereas if you have three then any one radiator might trip the others to reduce flow and limit heat if the room temperature is achieved?

I'm not really sure how it all works together as yet I am just guessing.

You would only need to read on this forum for five years to read that the correct instrument to use for radiator balancing is a contact thermocouple thermometer.

The IR type is no use for measuring pipes but it can be used to an extent for balancing by pointing it to the radiator face low down by the inlet and the outlet. The inaccuracy of the IR meter then largely balances out.
