Hello.

First post, bear with me.

I get the principle of balancing a CH system. I have 22 rads over three floors in a Victorian house which don’t appear to be connected floor by floor (I think flow and return go up the back half of the house and down the front).

I know the general idea is “work out the order the rads heat in and tweak lock shields so delta T is 11-12 degree C”

As I’ve got so many rads over 3 floors could I break this up? For example find the first 4 or 5 to heat and adjust lock shields then let it cool down and do the next 4 or 5 and repeat?

That approach seems logical to me but am I missing something?

Also any recommendations for cheap ish 2 channel digital clamp thermometers?

Thanks good people.

You may as well start by closing all of the lockshields, then open all of them half a turn, run it for half an hour and see how they go.

Thereafter, do not open or close any of them by more than a quarter turn in half an hour

If you do not have a suitable thermometer, try "flow to hot to hold" and "return too hot to hold for long"
