I need to replace the thermostat in an Immersion heater.

IM Heater is Backersafe 09193VS 3kw 14" pack

there is Backersafe thermostat BmST7 fitted, should it not be an 11" thermostat in there ?

or does it matter ?

thanks

Well, it dont matter to me :p

it is in the side, midheight of tank
not sure dimensions of tank ,
but it is in the airing cupboard in a flat

sits 2 feet or so off the floor

with water pump underneath

what size is the old thermostat?

if that fits and was working fine, just get a replacment.

its a 7"

but the thing is- i don't know whether it Should have been 11"
because there seems to be room for 11" one.

but whether that is such a factor, I'm not sure.

the pump is not pumping, and i suspect its failed - because the thermostat isn't working and the water is too hot.

i will probably just get a new 7" one , as well as replacing the pump.

thanks

Unless it's a thermal store, the pump shouldn't have anything to with the immersion.

Do you have a boiler for the radiators?

its a HW storage tank purely for the taps
the immersion heater works ok cos it heats the tank Ok

but the pump stopped working

only a small output to the taps

the thermostat is probably broken also

i will check it tomorrow

its just that i think ther should be an 11" and not a 7" thermostat inserted.
at present it has a 7 , but there is room for an 11

If the immersion heater is horizontal, the length of the thermostat will make little difference.

If the heater is vertical, or near vertical, the length of the thermostat will make some difference.

Hot water rises to the top of the cylinder, so a vertical heater with a short thermostat will only sense the temperature of the water at the top of the cylinder. A longer one will sense the temperature further down the cylinder.

yes it is horizontal
thanks very much ,

i hadn't thought of that

ill get another 7 and that will be the end of it.

(i hope)
:D
