The central heating in my flat stopped working yesterday. I have a worcester bosch 240 combi boiler. Hot water from taps is fine, but can't get central heating to turn on. I thought maybe the room thermostat had gone. When I took it off and turned the fuses back on, I found that there was no power coming through the wires. Any idea what could be wrong? The electrics were newly installed about 10 years ago. Is there a fuse somewhere between the boiler and the thermostat?

thanks

My money is on the timer if you have one. The main operating switch is a less likely candidate if you don't.

Its usually the case that terminals 1 and 2 on the timer are to power it up and that the other 2 wires are simply a live and switched live that need joining together to make the boiler work. Theres often a little wiring diagram on the back of the timer
If you feel capable of doing that safely then try it.

If theres no power there at the stat, its because the timer hasnt sent it or theres a break somewhere in between.

thanks for those tips. I have now checked that the room thermostat (stat) is fine. I opened the timer area on the boiler, and found a rather intimidating set of wires etc.... But no wiring diagram. Some wires are labelled on the circuit boards. I checked the two fuses (labeled F1 and F2) and they seem fine. Also checked that the stat acts as a swtich and is picked up by the boiler. Think i need to call in a pro. Is this a job for an electrician or for a plumber? any further advice?

You could try worcester bosch website. It may be necessary to email them and they will send you the instructions.

Look on corgi website for an gas/heating engineer.

Try to get someone who specialises in repairs.

Those who cant fix boilers usually tell you that its knackered just to sell you a new one.
