apologies if this is a repeat.

I have an Economy Plus 50b Boiler with an LP711 timer switch.

The question is, can a room thermostat by added to my system, I'm not sure because of the type of boiler?

also, i have what I've been told is a 'summer valve' i have to turn a tap in my airing cupboard on or off if i want heating as well as hot water, again because of the type of boiler.

Does this mean i cant change my LP711 for a timer that can select between hot water / hot water & heating?

many thanks

If you dont have a motorised valve on your heating then no you cant have roomstat ,nothing to do with the boiler just the configuration of the system and lack of controls

motorised valve, never heard of one of those, i assume they must come with more modern boilers? never noticed one in another house

Motorised valves controls the flow of (heating) water to a zone, I.E. the hot water cylinder/tank or the radiator circuit usually by using a cylinder stat attached to the cylinder and a room thermostat in the living space.

They've been used for at least thirty years

thanks, but what i meant was ive never seen one in line on pipes in houses ive been in or lived in, ive just googled them to see what they look like

ok, so i need one of them, where in the system would it need to be fitted? would the thermostat need to be wired to it?

sorry for all the questions but id rather get impartial advice on here than some geezer telling me all sorts for extra wonga in his pocket

and would having one also mean i could have a timer that can switch between water and heating

thanks

Really depends on your system to be honest. To convert a system to a fully pumped Y or S plan could be a major undertaking.

It's not just as simple as sticking a motorised valve somewhere, though it may well be in your case. A proper survey needs to be done however, frankly, whenever I get an enquiry such as yours I tend to be extremely busy
