Thermostatic shower mixer seized

Hi,

I have a thermostatic shower mixer, but not sure of make.
My problem is the thermostat is stuck on 38 degrees. I can depress the red locking button but the knob will not budge from 38. I'm guessing this may be seized by limescale.
Any ideas on best way of freeing this up?
Should I give it a go with grips, or are there better ways of stripping it down?
