We had a new Joule hot water cylinder fitted in November '24 (along with a new boiler, and a change to be an unvented, pressurised system).

The immersion heater (pictured) was fitted to the cylinder, but not wired up despite us having the double-pole switch nearby (from the old one). Not sure why, he said something like "we wouldn't really need it now we have a new boiler".

Anyway now we're having an extension, which requires the boiler to be off for periods. So it would be nice to have the immersion heater available as an option.

The Thermowatt paper instructions are clear enough, apart from one aspect. The cable clamp is shown with a screw passing down into the body of the brass to secure it. Whereas our one has the hole through the rim of the brass octagonal body - see pictures.

Looks like there's a small dimple in the flexible plastic that could accept a self-tapping screw, holding the strain relief in the position shown in the last picture. Is that correct - and if so, why does Thermowatt ship with incorrect instructions? !!

Yes the last photo appears correct, but I can’t find the instructions online, could you post a photo of the bit you mention?

Just to confirm, the self-tapping screw did fit nicely in the side of the cable strain relief. Job done, using 3183TQ heat-resistant cable. Our local CEF branch offers a "cut cable to length" service, so it was less than £4.
