Recently replaced a modern Valor convector electric fire for a fireplace recess with a Dimplex model. The Valor came supplied with steel tie back cable and eye bolts if none in back of fireplace to tie back. Manual emphasised the importance of doing this.

Surprised that the Dimplex fire had no provision to tie it back. This model was installed for preference with spacer that brings it further forward onto hearth.

Being tall, not that heavy and small footprint, with one hand this can easily be pulled over. Not a concern in the kid free house but would be wary otherwise.

Are tiebacks optional in designs for electric fires, are they mandatory for gas fires?

Not something I've knowingly encountered, Historically certainly not used for gas fires which simply stood on the hearth, snugged back against the tiled surround. But of course not something I have encountered in recent times since regulations changed.

Ah, OK, seems quite common not to have them from those designs. Coming from the Valor model that did have a tieback thought it was more common.

Our gas fire, is of the same style, and is screwed back to the wall/ hangs on the wall.
