Hi when tightening a waste for a basin that needs aligning for the pop up part, how do people gauge how many times they can turn it so it aligns for the pop up rod. I always get tempted to go for one more 360 degree turn but then can't make it all the way round.

Personally I think you get the feeling when enoughs enough.
People will gauge it differently.

When you get that tempted feeling, stop, check alignment, run basin and see if the joints dry, if so no need to tighten any more.
