New Basin Pop up waste leaking

Hello all, I've just fitted a new basin with pop up waste, but it still leaks a little from the bottom treads.

The waste has a white sealing ring which sits into the basin as you tighten. A rubber ring and a plastic tightening nut secures it from under the basin. I've tightened it as tight as it will go, but still leaks.

Should I be sealing it with a bead of silicon or something, as the seal itself is not providing a completely watertight seal.

Yes use sealant.
