Is it better to tile all the way to the floor or should I tile just to the bath edge (or does it not really matter eitherway?!)

Once bitten, twice shy. My last bathroom was tile to the bath only. Had terrible problems with water getting under the bath seal and damaging the wall, so much so that I have eventually had to demolish the wall and rebuild (it was a compressed strawboard wall!). This time I've gone for hardi-backer on a stud wall.

You'd normally tile to the bath. When you fit the bath, fill it with water and apply a bead of silicone around the bath where it meets the wall. Then tile. Then apply another bead of silicone around the bath/tile joint (again with the bath full of water).
That should be fine.
