Please help me here with experience of best practice (ie what works!)

Just about to tile the area for a new shower, got the tray down but am now scratching my head as to what is the best strategy for where the tiles edge onto the tray. What is the best method to avoid water leaks along the edge of the tray?

I thought I knew the solution, I was going to use a bath style sealing strip and then lap the tiles over the strip the way you would for a bath; seemed like a good approach. Not so sure now though because I have just been show a shower done that way and it leaks, cant for the life of me see why but leak it does.

I'm sure that this must be a common problem and somebody out there must have an approach that consistently works! Please any good advice very welcome.

Silicone the gap between the tray and the wall. Then tile to the tray. Then silicone the tile/tray joint. This should be done whilst you're standing in it to add some weight.
