Tiling onto Blackjack DPM - is it possible?

Hi,

In my ambition to suitably waterproof my bathroom before tiling I thought (naively) using Blackjack as an alternative to your expensive bathroom tanking paint might be a good idea... I must clarify that I am a complete novice and clearly should have read up on this before painting the moisture resistant plasterboard with this stuff! I've since been told by a neighbor who is a builder that this stuff is definitely NOT suitable for tiling...

Reading the tin though it does say it can be used as a bonding agent before plastering, so my thinking was "if you can plaster on it, surely tile adhesive will bond to it?!"

Has anyone got experience of tiling on to Blackjack 908 DPM before? I'm hopeful it can work somehow as I'll have to rip out the plasterboard panels otherwise.

I've read somewhere that SBR bond might help, however I don't really know what this stuff is or does.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

The description of the paint is:

"DPM. is an odourless rubber enriched bitumen emulsion which provides a highly effective sandwich damp proof membrane for floors. Also acts as a waterproofer for walls, above ground structures and foundations. DPM is also suitable as an adhesive for wood block and mosaic panels, insulation boards, expanded polystyrene, cork and as a plaster bonding agent, even on difficult surfaces."

Just spoken to technical support at Everbuild and they agree that it's not suitable for tiling HOWEVER keying a second coat and then putting on SBR bond should resolve the situation I've gotten myself into.

If anyone has any thoughts on this it'd be really helpful.

Hi Mitch, I have the exact issue with blackjack painted on a wood floor in a summer house. How did you overcome tiling on it?
