Tiling over Artex

Can anyone tell me if I get the artex checked for asbestos, and if clear, be able to strip it off with a wallpaper steam stripper?

or

can i get a good enough bond with tile adhesive without stripping the artex off?

prob not asbestos but i would remove it ,steaming is ok,if you go over the top good possibility it will come away from the plaster so better to be safe and sure hope it helps

A tip if anyone needs to remove artex.. .
mine was on in thin layers so not sure about thick artex.
i read asomewhere to;

1. mix up some wallpaper paste, and liberally spread it on the artex
2. cover it with plastic sheet, as if sticking it on like wallpaper. (i used opened out bin bags)

3. leave for about 6-8 hours.
4. scrape off!

it comes off like old wallpaper and was messy but it worked a treat!
