Actually, we've all fallen for the same thinking - we're assuming that we're talking about wall tiles here. For wall tiles, read those threads I posted links to - proceed, but with caution. For floor tiling, you can carry on without a worry, but I'd recommend an adhesive suitable for porcelain tiles in order to cope with the lack of porosity of the tile surface below.
jpmtiler, welcome to the forums! It's nice to have a fresh face (so to speak). If I can be so bold as to give you a piece of advice.... it's advisable to get a few posts (giving useful advice) under your belt before you start shouting what not to do. It inspires more confidence that way.
