Hello there iam looking to tile my kitchen table. And I wanted to know if there is a specific way it has to be done, the table is pine wood ( but soft) this is the reason I want to tile it,its a good table except for the top. So any advice please.

Hmmm, why don't you just sand it back down and refinish it?
If you want to tile it, you'll need to use flexible adhesive and as you'll be eating off it, I'd be inclined to use an epoxy grout like this http://www.bal-adhesives.co.uk/bal/bal_products/easypoxy.asp But you've been warned, it's not easy to use. You'll also need to sort something out for edging the tiles. You might be as well making a raised wooden frame that will surround the tiles and cover the edges.
Still prefer refinishing it though.

as my mate gcol says ,

you can retile but the finished edges may look rough , an you WILL need to use epoxy ,
lol , lol,lol,lol .......

its not for the faint hearted an can be a pig to work an clean off ...

DONT USE Epoxy if the room isnt protected from spills/etc ...

as Epoxy is the ""Devils Produce"" an can be a pain to grout/clean up with ... be warned ;)

I have used It alot in years gone by an it can be a hard days graft ,lol..lol
